FACTS > IMPLICATIONS OF ABUSE
Not only does child maltreatment hurt and kill children, but it also affects the community as a whole. Actual costs generated by the problem of child abuse and neglect can be overwhelming. Studies have documented that children who go through adverse childhood experiences also have difficulty throughout their lifespan in the areas of physical health, emotional health, mental health, social relationships, cognitive dysfunction, high-risk behaviors, and general behavioral problems (Wang & Holton, 2007).
Intimate partner violence affects the workplace, the health care system, the legal system, the social service system and most of all, children. The resulting cost of Intimate Partner Violence exceeds $5.8 billion each year. The average cost per victim for treatment is $6,200.
